An Invitation to Cinematic Artists

Ornament Pattern 3.jpg

There is a curious condition in the modern world of film. Never before have moving images traveled so widely. A film may now cross continents in an instant, reaching audiences far beyond the theaters and festivals where independent cinema once lived. Yet for the artists who create these works, much of what follows their release remains hidden.

It is a strange arrangement: the people who devote years to making a film are often the last to understand what becomes of it once it enters the world.

Poetical Sciences was founded to explore a different possibility.

A New Instrument

Ornament Pattern 3.jpg

We have begun developing a system designed to help filmmakers discover audiences and distribute their work directly to fans. This is called Phantascope, and will allow filmmakers to:

  • Discover, grow and develop their audience

  • Keep in touch using custom brand messaging tools

  • Own their community

  • Build infrastructure for creator-driven media ecosystems

The Founding Experiment

At present, Phantascope exists in its earliest form. Rather than releasing it quietly into the world, we have chosen to begin with a small and deliberate experiment. We are extending an invitation to one hundred cinematic artists—independent filmmakers who are curious enough to explore the first version of this instrument and help shape what it becomes.

These founding filmmakers will gain early access to the platform, participate in its development, and help us understand how these tools might best serve the needs of independent cinema. This first group will play a meaningful role in shaping what Poetical Sciences becomes.

Accepting The Invitation

This first group will be limited to one hundred filmmakers. Keeping the circle small allows us to work closely with those who join the experiment and refine the instrument through real creative use. Once the first one hundred places are filled, the invitation will close while development continues.

If you would like to participate in this first exploration—to help shape a system designed for creators rather than intermediaries—we would be honored to hear from you.

A Limited Circle

Who This Invitation Is For

This invitation is intended for filmmakers who have already experienced the peculiar opacity of modern distribution. Those who have wondered:

  • Why is audience data so difficult for creators to access?

  • Why do platforms know so much about viewers while filmmakers know so little?

  • Why are the people who create the work so often removed from the knowledge surrounding it?

If these questions feel familiar, you may be exactly the kind of filmmaker we hope to meet.
